Doha, Qatar: Underscoring the strong diplomatic and military relations between Türkiye and Qatar, TCG Kınalıada arrived in Doha yesterday and will be anchoring in the Doha Port for two days, departing on July 25.
On July 14, 1889, the Ertuğrul Frigate embarked on its final voyage – a goodwill voyage to Japan. On September 19, 1890, it encountered a typhoon off Japan and sank, resulting in the loss of more than 500 sailors and officers; 69 survived. The tragedy is marked as a landmark of the friendship between Türkiye and Japan.
This year also marks the 100th anniversary of Turkish-Japanese diplomatic relations. Therefore, as the fourth vessel produced under Türkiye’s MİLGEM project, the Ada Class Corvette TCG Kınalıada set sail from İzmir in April to mark the 100th anniversary of Turkish-Japanese diplomatic relations and the 134th anniversary of the date the Ottoman frigate Ertuğrul set sail for Japan.
The mission aims to enhance the visibility of the Turkish Naval Forces, introduce national platforms, and strengthen bilateral relations with the countries to be visited during the 4,5-month voyage.
TCG Kınalıada’s port calls include following countries: Japan, Saudi Arabia, Djibouti, Somalia, the Maldives, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, China, South Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, India, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, and Jordan.
In this regard, TCG Kınalıada’s main aims are: Conducting port visits to 24 ports in 20 countries; holding receptions on board to demonstrate Turkish hospitality and foster friendship; organizing meetings with high authorities to improve mutual understanding; conducting exercises along with the naval forces of the visited countries to enhance interoperability; and making a significant contribution to further deepen our already well-established bilateral relations and pave the way for new cooperation in various fields, in particular defence industry.
The arrival of the Turkish TCG Kınalıada corvette in this vibrant port symbolizes more than just a military visit. It is a testament to the deep and enduring ties and solidarity that bind our nations together in the pursuit of peace, security, and mutual prosperity.
Türkiye and Qatar share a profound bond rooted in common values, shared aspirations, and a steadfast commitment to regional stability. Our collaboration in the defence sector stands as a shining example of this enduring partnership. Over the years, we have cultivated a resolute relationship based on trust, respect, and a shared vision for a peaceful and secure future.
In times of crisis, Türkiye and Qatar have stood side by side, offering support and solidarity. Whether it is through humanitarian aid, disaster relief, or diplomatic efforts, our nations have consistently demonstrated a willingness to support each other and work together for the greater good. This spirit of solidarity is the cornerstone of our relationship and will continue to guide our partnership in the years to come.
Just one instance for a display of an exemplary solidarity between Türkiye and Qatar in naval area was the visit of the MİLGEM TCG Burgazada to Doha 2 years ago. TCG Burgazada successfully contributed the safety and security of Qatar during the World Cup 2022.
As one of the 10 countries in the world that can build, design, and maintain warships using its national capabilities, Türkiye shares the necessary will to enhance partnership in defence industry with Qatar.
Our cooperation with Qatar in this sector has been rapidly growing for the last decade and in a good track of promising horizons.
