Turfway moved its Wednesday card to next Sunday afternoon due to winter weather expected to hit Florence, Ky. through Sunday and Monday.
Kevin Kerstein from the Turfway Park publicity department announced the racing schedule change via a Saturday post on X. According to Kerstein, Turfway plans to run its Saturday card as originally scheduled, since the snow was not predicted to start until Sunday.
The forecast from the National Weather Service called for increasing clouds Saturday night with a low around 21. They predicted a high near 27 with 90% chance of snow Sunday, heavy at times, beginning at 10 a.m. EDT with accumulation between two and four inches. Forecasters predicted both snow and ice overnight between Sunday and Monday, with a low near 23, 100% chance of precipitation and three to five inches of new snow and sleet possible. They called for a high near 28 and some snow into Monday, with an 80% chance of precipitation and less than one inch of new snow and sleet expected.
Though the National Weather Service did not predict new snow between Monday night and Wednesday, temperatures were predicted to remain below freezing with a Tuesday high near 27 and a Wednesday high around 22.
Turfway will not redraw Wednesday’s card but rather move it to next Sunday in its entirety. First post is scheduled for 1 p.m. EST.
