As college football fans gather in the Phoenix area, Turf
Paradise and the National Thoroughbred league are teaming up for a special day
of horse racing next Monday.
Basketball great Julius Erving and a dynamic group of
retired sports superstars including Boise State alumni Austin Pettis, Shea
McClellin and Alex Guerrero will be part of the festivities that will include a
beer garden, a VIP buffet, marching bands, a delicious lineup of food trucks
and much more.

The event also features a full card of live, local horse racing, including stakes
races named after Boise State and Penn State, who meet Dec. 31 in the Fiesta Bowl national quarterfinal in nearby Glendale, Ariz.
The NTL’s championship will feature specific college-football rooting sections
with price levels and experiences for all from the beer garden to the VIP owners’
experience with more than a dozen NFL legends plus Philadelphia Stallions
co-owner Erving inside the stadium club at Turf Paradise.
In keeping with the college football theme, the grass in front of the toteboard
adjacent to the turf course will be painted blue in honor of Boise State.
“The National Thoroughbred League and Turf Paradise are offering bowl attendees
and college football fans all over the valley the ultimate pre-game party,” Turf
Paradise general manager Vince Francia said. “It’s like a giant tailgate party,
only with horses.”
Tickets already on sale cost $30 for the beer garden and $125 for the VIP section.
