For the first time since its inception in 2013, there will be a National Women’s Soccer League season without Alex Morgan.
The iconic U.S. forward has anchored the league on and off the pitch, serving as the face of the sport Stateside and beyond.
Her impact on football as a whole has been felt not only by future stars who grew up watching her but also by those who shared the pitch with the legendary number 13.
“Alex carved the path for me and I’ve always looked up to her,” Trinity Rodman told Prime Video.
“Seeing the journey that she’s been on herself, what she has done for the league, and also having babies.
“I think she’s a very strong woman and she is always my idol.”
Morgan announced her decision to retire last September, with the news that she is pregnant with her second child.
She began her journey in the NWSL with the Portland Thorns, before playing her last league game in 2024 with the San Diego Wave.
“I can’t really put into words that impact she’s had on our game,” added midfielder Sam Coffey.
“Getting to play alongside her on the national team was just a dream and really surreal.
“I know we are all better for having known her and for having received her impact.”
Morgan shouldered the growth of the women’s game, her advocacy and allyship have been the backbone of driving standards worldwide.
Rodman and Coffey are a few in a long line of players inspired by the 35-year-old, one that will grow long beyond retirement.
