Salt Lake Tribune reporters earned three individual top 10 awards at the annual Associated Press Sports Editors contest for the staff’s coverage in 2024.
Gordon Monson placed in the top 10 for columns covering topics ranging from the politicization of boxer Imane Khelif’s Olympics to the fallout from the firings of Utah State’s football coach and several administrators.
Reporter Kevin Reynolds finished among the top 10 in beat writing for his coverage of the BYU Cougars.
Reynolds also earned a top 10 finish in the Short Features category for a piece examining the University of Utah women’s basketball team and the racial harassment its players endured during the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
The Tribune was given an Excellence in Video award for journalist Trevor Christensen’s piece looking back at the Nutty Putty Cave tragedy.
The Tribune also placed in the top 10 for both its print and digital portfolios.
The Salt Lake Tribune competes in APSE’s Division B, which includes the Oregonian, the Baltimore Sun, the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, among others.
