After an elite collegiate career playing both offense and defense, Heisman winner Travis Hunter is being listed as a cornerback for the upcoming NFL Scouting Combine.
The question of Hunter’s pending role in the NFL has loomed, and perhaps this is a sign that his home will likely be on the defensive side of the ball.
In his final season at Colorado, Hunter played 688 snaps on defense and 672 snaps on offense.
He racked up 92 catches, 1,152 yards and 15 total touchdowns on offense, and four interceptions, 32 tackles and 11 pass breakups on defense.
In addition to the Heisman award, Hunter earned AP honors for first-team cornerback, first-team all-purpose player and second-team receiver this past season.
He’s sure to be involved both ways with his unique skillset but it seems unlikely that Hunter would play full-time on both sides of the ball in the NFL, which is why his combine designation could be telling.
While he is being listed as a defensive back for the combine, it is worth noting that drill work for wide receivers and cornerbacks are on separate days and that Hunter may do wide receiver drills “if necessary.”
Hunter may be showing off to scouts at the combine as a cornerback, but his tools and resume speak for themselves in displaying his otherworldly versatility.
Hunter is expected to go in the top five come April 24 when the NFL Draft kicks off, as it’s thought that he will have an instant impact regardless of where a team may decide to utilize him the most.
If his listing as a cornerback does truly tell his future, then the NFL world may have to wait a bit longer than expected to see him catch his first touchdown in the pros.
A total of 329 players were invited to the 2025 combine, which will take place in Indianapolis beginning on February 24.
