BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -Labor Day weekend is almost here, and if you’re looking to get away, there are still some last minute deals you may be able to snag.
NerdWallet Travel expert Sally French said although affordable last-minute plane tickets might be hard to come by, it is still possible to score deals on rental cars and hotels.
“According to a nerd wallet analysis, both hotels and rental cars tend to be about 13% cheaper when booked last minute,” said French. “That’s one to two weeks out as opposed to booking three months out.”
French said there are some best and worst days to be heading out of town we should keep in mind.
“Friday before Labor Day is expected to be the busiest day at airports, and that applies to roads as well,” explained French. “We then see people return on Labor Day Monday, so if you can really travel any day outside of those, you’re already in good shape.”
She said making it a longer trip and leaving on Tuesday or Wednesday will be a traveler’s best bet at avoiding crowds.
French said road trips are a popular choice for Labor Day weekend, partly due to gas prices being cheaper than years prior.
She adds that international travel is also on the rise for the long weekend.
“The good news is that we’ve also seen airlines expanding their international routes, which has made international travel generally cheaper, also just more convenient because there’s less likelihood of having to take something like a layover,” added French.
