The much-anticipated ABN AMRO Open Tennis Tournament is set to kick off from February 1 to February 9, 2025, at Rotterdam Ahoy, with thrilling matches featuring some of the world’s top tennis players. This year’s event boasts a staggering prize pool of €2,134,985, making it even more lucrative than last year’s edition, which already held the record as the most rewarding in the tournament’s rich history.
This year, the prize money for the winners has also seen an increase. Last year’s champion, Jannik Sinner, who triumphed over Alex de Minaur with €387,940, will see the winner’s cheque increase to approximately €399,215 this year. Unfortunately for tennis fans and tournament director Richard Krajicek, Sinner, currently the world’s number one, has withdrawn from this year’s tournament to rest after his recent victory at the Australian Open. The Italian expressed his sentiments saying, “My body needs time to recover after the long stretch in Australia. I have great memories of winning the title for wonderful crowds in Rotterdam Ahoy last year and hope to be back soon.”
Despite Sinner’s absence, the tournament remains stacked with talent. Carlos Alcaraz, ranked third globally, is on the list along with other former winners like Daniil Medvedev (2023) and Andrey Rublev (2021) as well as Alex de Minaur. The presence of four players from the ATP top 10 ensures the competition will be fierce!
Fans can look forward to seeing Holger Rune, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and the sensational 21-year-old Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, who stands at 2.03 meters and serves well over 230 km/h. He is expected to showcase his impressive style of play. Notably, three homegrown talent from the Netherlands will also participate. Tallon Griekspoor, the Dutch number one, aims to perform even stronger than last year, where he reached the semi-finals before losing to the eventual winner, Sinner. Botic van de Zandschulp, having never advanced past the second round, will be aiming for a new achievement, whilst 17-year-old Mees Röttgering, the world number one among juniors, is gearing up for his debut at Ahoy following his wildcard entry.
Prior to the tournament beginning on February 1, the draw for the qualifying tournament will take place on the evening of January 31, determining the matchups and schedule for the main event.
For those unable to attend the matches live at Rotterdam, fear not! The tournament will be broadcasted on Ziggo Sport Tennis as well as NOS, covering every thrilling moment from the venue. Viewers can enjoy matches at home or on the go, ensuring they don’t miss any of the action.
