Here’s a look at some of the action set to take place involving teams in the Shreveport-Bossier City area on the seventh weekend of the 2024 Louisiana High School Athletic Association high school football season.
Also included are our predictions of which teams are likely to come out winners on the third weekend in October.
When: Thursday, 7 p.m.
Note: The No. 2-ranked Griffins showed out in a dominating win against previously undefeated Minden last week. Luke Delafield, Miller Warren and Kenny Thomas had multiple TDs and the same could happen this week against the Cowboys.
Watson’s prediction: North DeSoto 48, Southwood 0
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Note: The Bucs will need a lot of Brandon Craig action to slow down the Vikings, who are making the Ben Taylor to Kenny Darby connection a regular occurrence. Vikes remain undefeated despite gutsy effort from the home team.
Watson’s prediction: Airline 54, Haughton 24

When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Note: The Eagles have shown they can play with anyone, losing their last four games by a combined 19 points. The Tigers ended their losing skid last week, but a new one may start this week. Two of the best sophomore quarterbacks in the Louisiana test each other in this one.
Watson’s prediction: Evangel 35, Benton 33
When: Friday, 7 p.m., Lee Hedges
Note: The Jackets’ thrilling win over Huntington last week, with the Harrison Ayres to Alex Schoonover connection in the final minute, gives Byrd the momentum heading into their homecoming game battle.
Watson’s prediction: Byrd 32, NCHS 18
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Note: This game will be about which team rebounds best, since both had disappointing losses last week. The Panthers keep playing well despite missing a half-dozen starters, and the Raiders are a tough out when healthy.
Watson’s prediction: Parkway 28, Huntington 18
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Note: Gator QB Brodie Savage and RB Jarmarcea Plater had career games combining for 824 yards last week and they’ll need repeat performances to get past the Wildcats, who are better than their record.
Watson’s prediction: Destrehan 34, Captain Shreve 27
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Note: The Lions have displayed a lot of feistiness of late, but the Crimson Tide is smarting after last week’s lopsided loss to North DeSoto.
Watson’s prediction: Minden 24, BTW 20
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Note: The Kyren Johnson and Jaxon Bentzler show continues this week for the Falcons against a Bearkat team willing to put up a good fight. The talents of Quan Scott give the ‘Kats a chance.
Watson’s prediction: Northwood 44, Bossier 12
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Note: It’s the battle of the reigning state champions played in a faraway place called Farmerville with a District 1-2A title on the line. Can the Cavaliers keep their hot streak going against the Farmers, who’ve won three straight?
Watson’s prediction: Calvary 44, Union Parish 32
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Note: Just 20 minutes down the road from the Calvary/UP contest is the top high school football game in the state, with the defending LHSAA Non-Select Division I champion Bearcats hosting perennial 4A state champ Neville. There’s no way to describe how hard-hitting this District 2-5A battle will be.
Watson’s prediction: Ruston 24, Neville 21
Last week: 10-0 Last 4 weeks: 38-2 Season: 51-9 (85%)
