Feb. 21 (UPI) — Tony Finau agreed to a one-year contract with TGL’s Los Angeles Golf Club, the tech-infused golf league announced Friday.
Los Angeles, which includes Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala, is set to face New York Golf Club on Monday in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Rose and Fleetwood are unavailable for that match because of pre-existing commitments.
“I’ve watched many of the TGL matches these past six weeks and I’m looking forward to getting a chance to be a part of it and compete,” Finau said in a news release. “Team golf is always fun and exciting.
“Collin, Sahith, Justin and Tommy are great guys that I respect and enjoy being around. I appreciate Los Angeles Golf Club calling me up for this match. I’m excited to get to SoFi Center. The place looks electric, and I can’t wait to see it all first-hand and practice with the team. Monday is going to be a fun night.”
Finau, 35, is the No. 26 player in the Official World Golf Ranking.
Los Angeles is second in the TGL standings, with two wins and an overtime loss through three matches. The Bay Golf Club, which features Ludvig Aberg, Wyndham Clark, Min Woo Lee and Shane Lowry, leads the standings after starting the inaugural campaign with three victories.
Atlanta Drive Golf Club and New York round out the Top 4. Tiger Woods‘ Jupiter Links Golf Club and Rory McIlroy‘s Boston Common Golf are in fifth and sixth, respectively, below the playoff cut line.
Los Angeles and New York will meet at 5 p.m. EST Monday at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens. Boston take on Atlanta at 9 p.m. The matches will air on ESPN2.
