Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Allen’s reported exit appears to be completed. It was reported on Monday morning that Allen had “agreed” to join Clemson in the same role. And by Monday evening, Allen’s name had been removed from the Nittany Lions’ online staff directory.
A team spokesperson has yet to confirm whether Allen has departed the team for another opportunity, but all signs have pointed to his move. Clemson’s Board of Trustees has scheduled a meeting on Tuesday for “Approval of Football Coach’s Compensation,” On3’s Matt Connolly reported Monday afternoon.
That meeting would likely finalize Allen’s contract with the Tigers.
Also removed from the Penn State Athletics staff directory was Allen’s son, Thomas, who served as a defensive analyst with the program over the past season. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported earlier in the day that Thomas would “likely join the Clemson staff” in “some type of analyst role.”
Thamel reported that “family geography loomed large in Allen’s decision” to join the Tigers, particularly because his two daughters live in the Carolinas.
