As Ohio State prepares to take on Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff National Championship, the Buckeyes have dismissed one of their most famous players from their roster.
Only it isn’t Jeremiah Smith, Will Howard, Jack Sawyer, TreVeyon Henderson or Quinshon Judkins who is no longer a part of Ohio State’s locker room, but rather walk-on defensive lineman Caden Davis.
According to Ohio State’s student newspaper, The Lantern, a team spokesperson has confirmed that Davis is no longer an active OSU athlete. The spokesperson declined to give a specific reason for the Mason, Ohio, native’s departure from the team.
While Davis has been a non-factor on the field since joining the Buckeyes’ roster as a preferred walk-on in 2022, he’s garnered a significant following via social media. The redshirt sophomore has amassed more than 276,000 followers on TikTok and more than 106,000 followers on Instagram while using both platforms to provide a behind the scenes look at what it’s like to be an Ohio State football player on a daily basis.

“I pretty much just make content around football and everything that goes around here,” Davis said in an interview with a fellow OSU student posted to YouTube. “Being in front of the public eye is just something I’ve always loved to do… I just love being able to create something and show what I can do and what I’m doing for my day-to-day life. Because not only do I feel it’s interesting, but I’m getting that feedback that other people do too.”
Despite the popularity of his content, Davis came under fire recently for video featuring footage from the Buckeyes’ trip to Texas for the College Football Playoff semifinal Cotton Bowl. Some viewers questioned whether he was actually on the trip after noticing that some of the footage actually appeared to be from Ohio State’s appearance in the Cotton Bowl at the end of the 2023 season, while Buckeyes offensive lineman George Fitzpatrick commented “you don’t play here” on a since-deleted post, according to The Lantern.
It’s unclear whether those videos or any previous ones posted by Davis played a role in his dismissal from the Ohio State program.
In any event, it appears the Buckeyes will need to find someone else to document their trip to Atlanta for Monday night’s championship game against the Fighting Irish.
