MARIETTA, Okla. (KXII) – Southern Tech Job Placement Coordinator Rhona Mize says over 20 employers and organizations across southern Oklahoma offered their resources and employment opportunities to help those who have lost jobs from last April’s tornado and recent layoffs in the area.
“To help those people get the resources they need and hopefully get employed and get themselves back into a good paying job,” Mize said.
She says the job and resource fair offers visitors a variety of industries and educational opportunities. From healthcare positions to skill-based jobs that you might not even know were available in your area.
“We have lots of different agencies and employers come together in one place where just being able to connect with lots and lots of opportunities at one location,” Mize stated.
Trevor Riddle says Ki Bois Community Action is currently hiring for several positions to help adults with disabilities in Carter, Murray and Garvin Counties. He says they can train employees with little to no experience needed.
“A job fair is a great place for that where you can sit with someone that actually works at that place, bounce ideas off of them, hear what the requirements are, see if that’s something you want to explore further,” Riddle said.
Retired Michelin employee Tina Paddock stopped by to look for a new career, and says she’s glad she did.
“They tell you if they have job openings for their specific office, there’s a lot of jobs that you had no clue that was out there,” Paddock stated.
Mize says Southern Tech’s next career fair will be April 25th at the Ardmore Convention Center.
