FAIRVIEW, Pa. – The Ohio Dominican Panthers women’s golf team took part in the Michael Corbett Fall Classic, hosted by Gannon on Monday (Oct. 7) and Tuesday (Oct. 8).
Ohio Dominican finished third of the eight teams in the team standings, scoring 648 (+72) for the two-round event. The Panthers shot 321 (+33) in the first round before a 327 (+39) in the second round at Whispering Woods Golf Course. ODU was tied for second in pars (84) and third in birdies (11) for the tournament.
Freshman Maria Briceno Vargas notched a fourth place finish with a 155 (+11). She started the tourney with an 81 on Monday before going with a 2-over 74 on Tuesday, jumping eight spots. Her six birdies ranked second among the competition.
Senior Ellyn Deibel finished in sixth place behind Briceno Vargas, four strokes back at 159 (+15). Deibel was 6-over 78 in the first round with an 81 in the final round. She was seventh in birdies and pars in the event with three birdies and 19 pars.
Junior Caroline Tragesser rounded out the Panthers in the top ten with a tie in tenth place. She totaled 163 (+19) with rounds of 80 and 83, respectively. Tragesser had 20 pars, tied for fourth in the tournament.
Junior Sydney Devore shot rounds of 82 and 89 as she was tied for 18th place. Devore’s final total was 171 (+27) on the course.
Sophomore Alana Miller was two strokes behind in 20th place, tallying 173 (+29). Her best round of the two was her opening round 85 before shooting 88 in the final 18.
Junior Meg Saffell ended the event in a 34th place tie with a 36-hole total of 188. Saffell shot 86 and 102 in her two rounds on the course.
Ohio Dominican’s final event of the Fall will be the Davenport Panther Invitational this weekend on Saturday (Oct. 12) and Sunday (Oct. 13).
