South Carolina basketball officially is 2-0 all-time in the SEC/ACC Challenge. On Tuesday, the Gamecocks had to travel to Chestnut Hill to take on the Boston College Eagles, but Lamont Paris’ team emerged victorious. In fact, Carolina won big.
Collin Murray-Boyles had a big double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down 14 rebounds. He also made another 3-pointer. Myles Stute (eight points, five rebounds) and Morris Ugusuk (three made 3-pointers) had nice efforts, as well.
As a whole, the Gamecocks played one of their hardest games of the year against BC. After the game, Coach Paris applauded his team’s effort and highlighted their focus, as well. On defense, USC held the Eagles to South Carolina’s lowest scoring total allowed against Power Conference competition in five years.
Result: South Carolina won 73-51.
East Carolina always seems to give South Carolina trouble, and that trend continued on Saturday. However, a strong second half (especially shooting the basketball) helped the Gamecocks overcome a halftime deficit.
Jamarii Thomas (22 points) and Collin Murray-Boyles (20 points on perfect 10-for-10 shooting) carried the load on offense. Nick Pringle nearly posted a double-double with eight points and 10 boards. Thomas and Morris Ugusuk combined to go 8-for-12 from behind the arc. Thomas also dished out seven assists. For the game, the team shot over 50% from the field and from the perimeter while drawing enough contact to shoot 25 foul shots.
Zach Davis had a classic Zach Davis well-rounded game. The junior scored 10 points, secured three rebounds, and dished out a pair of assists while playing good defense. Most impressively, though, he shot 2-for-2 from 3-point land.
Result: South Carolina won 75-68.
