Bryson DeChambeau made his first trip to India this week to compete in the International Series India on the Asian Tour, but his debut was spoiled by a familiar name.
Ollie Schniederjans, who wasn’t playing golf a couple years ago because of numerous injuries, held off the two-time major champion to win International Series India at DLF Golf and Country Club outside of Delhi, India. Schniederjans, the former No. 1 amateur in the world, finished at 10 under, capped by a stellar 3-under 69 in the final round to beat DeChambeau by four shots.
“It means a lot to me,” Schniederjans, now 31, said. “This golf course is very challenging, and back in the day I would have had a hard time out here, so to come out and shoot those scores now, with everything I have been through, my game is a lot better than it ever was. This was proof this week.”
DeChambeau tried to shrink the gap, closing in 65 for the best round of the day, but three straight rounds of 69 from Schniederjans was enough to take the title.
Fellow LIV Golf players Joaquin Niemann and Abraham Ancer tied for third at 2 under.
Schniederjans was in the field this week by virtue of finishing fourth in the LIV Golf Promotions event in December. In 2022, had replacement surgery on both hips and was out of the game for more than a year.
“It was a long process, it took a lot of patience,” Schniederjans said. “I did a lot to change my body and swing, and had to learn a lot through that process.
“There were setbacks that took me years to get to this point. This year has been good, I have been able to be on the course all year for a year now. I’ve been able to put everything together, and I knew something like this was coming.”
There were numerous LIV golfers who teed it up this week in advance of the season opener next week in Riyadh, which will be played under the lights.
