1978 – Dave Shelbourne’s Highland Trojans improve to 6-0 with a 14-7 win over Crown Point. It’s the first 6-0 start for Highland and the six straight wins matches the program’s longest win streak to date.

1978 – Tommy Franks big night pushes the Wildcats to 6-0 on the season, as they run past Roosevelt 38-0. George Hall’s team are in the midst of a 49-5 stretch.

1989 – Dave Templin and his Lew Wallace gridders moved to 6-0 with a 40-6 win over the Troopers of Wirt at the Hornets house in the Morningside neighborhood of Glen Park. Of the six teams they’ve beaten, two will go on to win state championships (Bishop Noll & Hobart).

1989 – On a crisp Autumn evening, the Hobart Brickies got the better of the Merrillville Pirates for the third straight year, this time by a score of 28-0. It’s the six of 13 straight wins for Hobart, one of which is the state championship game.

1989 – Bishop Noll’s Warriors win their third of 11 straight, with a 38-21 win over the Gavit Gladiators – one of those 11 was the 3a state championship.

2006 – In a week seven matchup along Interstate 65, the old vet Mark Hoffman and a young up-and-comer named Zac Wells go head to head for the first time. The teacher gets the better of the student in this case, as Valpo downs Merrillville 41-23. The Pirates drop to 4-3 while the Vikings improve to 3-4.

2006 – Wally McCormack and Hobart move to 6-1 with a 42-13 win over the Morton Governors at Brickie Bowl. It’s the fifth of nine straight victories for the Brickies, who reach 10 wins for the first time since the Don Howell era.
