Without getting too personal about my chest, let’s just say pregnancy has brought some noticeable changes. A high-impact sports bra that actually does its job has become absolutely necessary for my workouts, but finding one that delivers wasn’t exactly a walk in the park. After a few rounds of trial and error, I met the Shefit Ultimate Sports Bra ($69), and for how secure and supportive it is, I joke that it’s like strapping on body armor (in the best way). While I can’t claim to have tested every high-impact sports bra on the market, my workout clothes drawer full of contenders says a lot — and this is the one I keep reaching for. Ahead, I’m sharing everything you need to know about it, especially if you’re in the same boat as me.
What I like about the Shefit Ultimate Sports Bra is probably obvious from this article’s headline (I compared it to body armor for a reason!). Thanks to its thoughtful design, the support is truly unmatched. For starters, it zips in the front, which gives loads of compression and security (that zipper isn’t moving). Since it’s so supportive, I’ve found the best way to put it on is by securing the front hook-and-eye closure first, which makes it easier to zip up. That, combined with its adjustable straps and rib band, is the perfect duo for a bounce-free workout.
I’ve put the Shefit Ultimate Sports Bra to the test during everything from low-impact activities like pickleball to high-impact workouts like running (though running is officially on pause for me at this stage of pregnancy), and it performed in both scenarios. I also love that it has a zipper guard to prevent chafing during exercise, and I’ve yet to experience any discomfort mid-workout — besides some underboob sweatiness due to the bra’s thick fabric (it’s made of 88 percent nylon and 12 percent spandex).
If support is your top priority, I highly recommend the Shefit Ultimate Sports Bra. However, if comfort ranks equally high on your list, you may want to explore other options. Keep in mind that this isn’t a lightweight, seamless design, so if that’s what you’re expecting, it might not meet your needs. My comparison to armor comes from how well it locks you in with incredible support, but it’s equally heavy-duty, so much so that some shoppers find it less comfortable.
For instance, one reviewer who gave it three stars and recommended it “for sports” shared: “This fits okay, is supportive, and isn’t terribly uncomfortable. It’s a bit stiff and not as comfortable as I would like. Note that it is very substantial bulky material and not suitable to wear under clothing as a bra.” While I find that it fits more than “okay,” I do see why some folks might consider the fabric stiff, and I agree that I wouldn’t wear it for anything but exercising; though that’s what it’s intended for.
The Shefit Ultimate Sports Bra is available on Amazon, as well as direct-to-consumer from the brand’s website.
