Considering a job or career change can be daunting. Trying to decide your next move, what you want to do next, and where you want to live are all important factors. But if you’re someone looking for a new job in Minnesota, never fear! We were just named one of the best states for jobs in 2025.

It’s crazy to think that 2025 is just a month and a half away. And if you’re thinking 2025 is your year for a job change, you’ll want to take a peek at the states that are considered the best for finding a job.
The study was done by WalletHub and as with all of their studies, they looked at quite a few different factors to determine the best states for finding a job.
Those factors include job opportunities, employment growth, monthly average starting salary, unemployment rate, median annual income, time spent working, time spent commuting, and work-related stress. In total, there were 34 “key indicators” that were considered when putting together this ranking.
Minnesota did not come in as the best state for finding a job in 2025. The top spot goes to New Hampshire.
The biggest reason they got the top spot is “because it has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country”. They also have the “third-most job opportunities per capita” and the number of jobs available goes up each year by about 1.7%.
So if you’re ok with moving for work, New Hampshire might be the spot for you!
On the other end of the rankings, the worst state for finding a job in 2025 is West Virginia.
All of the factors that WalletHub looked into they compiled into two categories: ‘job market rank’ and ‘economic environment rank’. West Virginia was the worst state in both of those…
As for us in Minnesota, we’ve got it good! We came in as the 3rd best state to find a job in 2025!
The main reason we got 3rd is because we have “the third-highest median household income, at over $82,000, adjusted for the cost of living”. We also have the “10th-highest average monthly starting salary, at nearly $3,900.”
We also rank highly for workers with private health insurance, employer-based retirement plans, low unemployment rate, and job opportunities. There’s a lot of good things going for us!
An interesting point that one of our news guys, TJ, brought up to me is that Rochester, MN likely also plays a big factor. Rochester’s job growth surpassed the rest of the state by a long shot recently, so that’s likely playing a role in our ranking as well.
Also, in case you’re curious, the number two spot went to Vermont.
