MIAMI GARDENS — Tuesday, Nov. 5, is election day for the country but also an election day of sorts in the NFL. It’s the NFL trade deadline.
With the Dolphins at 2-5, it’s possible GM Chris Grier is a seller, not a buyer, this year, if he thinks the odds are against this team turning things around. Here are three players the Dolphins could deal:
Wilson is the happiest guy in the Dolphins’ locker room and a player who has responded whenever called upon. Problem is, he was never called upon in October — didn’t play in a single game this month. That’s not a talent thing, it’s just that he’s on a team that has Raheem Mostert, De’Von Achane and Jaylen Wright. That smile on his face could disappear if he’s told he’s being dealt, but it might be the best thing for him in a pure football sense. And he’d be missed.
The Dolphins are $12 million over the projected salary cap for 2025. Holland is next in line to get paid. If Grier is concerned about making ends meet, he could make a business decision, which has happened before. This is especially true if Holland’s asking price is nowhere near what the Dolphins are willing to pay. Holland should net a handsome draft pick. He’s only 24 and has made a couple of secondary all-AFC honors, although Pro Football Focus currently has him tied with Buffalo’s Damar Hamlin as the 45th-graded safety in the league (for what it’s worth, Marcus Maye is 20th and Jordan Poyer 82nd). The only teams with worse cap situations for next season are Seattle, Cleveland and New Orleans. One complicating factor: Holland’s health situation. He’s currently dealing with hand and knee problems.
Like Wilson, this is another change-of-scenery possibilities. Tindall was taken in the third round in 2022, 102nd overall, and only gets on the field for special teams. In three seasons he has played a total of 21 defensive snaps. The best Miami could hope for would be a conditional seventh-rounder, but a fresh start might be best for all concerned.
