HYDERABAD: Gongadi Trisha played an instrumental role in India winning their second ICC women’s U-19 World Cup title in Kuala Lumpur recently. This is the second successive World Cup for the 19-year-old Hyderabadi. She scored the first century of the tournament, was player of the match in the final against South Africa and was adjudged player of the tournament. Lifting the World Cup is the most memorable moment for Trisha, while hitting a century in front of her father Rami Reddy in the Super Six match against Scotland was very special.
“Winning the World Cup for the second time remains my favourite moment of the tournament. Of course, hitting the century in front of my father is a special feeling. And becoming the player of the tournament is surely the icing on the cake,” Trisha told TOI on arrival here on Tuesday.

Trisha aggregated 309 runs at an impressive average of 77.25 and claimed seven wickets. “The way I played in the tournament and dominated throughout is pleasing,” she said. However, she credited the team management for her success. “Our coaches kept talking about the kind of wickets and conditions we would get in Malaysia, and we practised on such wickets. That helped us a lot,” said Trisha.
Asked if scoring a century had crossed her mind, she said, “Yes, I wanted to score a century. But I didn’t imagine it would happen in that match (against Scotland). With my dad in the crowd, it was a special moment.”
