The “Kamala Harris for President” campaign launched a major effort in The Villages, Florida, on Saturday, July 27. The event, featuring a golf cart rally, began at 12:30 p.m. at Lake Sumter Landing. This rally is part of a larger “massive weekend action in Florida,” marking 100 days until Election Day. The Harris campaign announced that the weekend would include over ’36 events across the state, such as canvass launches, press events, and appearances by local and state Democratic leaders.’
On Saturday, there were more planned events in Broward, Lee, and Hillsborough counties. The campaign scheduled events for Sunday in Orange County, Palm Beach County, and Miami-Dade County. The campaign wants to reach more people in Florida and engage thousands of voters.
The importance of scheduling a rally in The Villages, a neighborhood often controlled by Republicans, was pointed out by observers on X (previously Twitter). The incident is indicative of the Harris campaign’s calculated attempt to gain ground in a crucial battleground state. X users called the move a ‘remarkable turnaround.’
“We are working for every vote in this state… it’s one we are determined to win,” said Jasmine Burney Clark, the Harris campaign director in Florida, as the campaign underlined its dedication to reaching every voter in the state.
Democrats see a potential to capture the state of Florida since roughly thirty percent of people do not support either major party. In an effort to convince undecided voters and solidify their position in the state, the Harris team intends to mobilize grassroots volunteers to make phone calls, knock on doors, and participate in public demonstrations of support.
