Today, the ATP Awards were announced, including the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award, a
prize historically shared by Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal over 20 years.
Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud are among the nominees.

Since 1977,
the ATP Sportsmanship Award has been given to players on the tour through a
vote by their peers. In 1996, the award was renamed after six-time Grand Slam
champion Stefan Edberg, who won it five times between 1988 and 1995. The award
recognises players who exhibit the highest level of professionalism and
integrity while promoting fairness and tennis off the court.

Starting in
2004, Roger Federer dominated the award, winning it 13 times from 2004 to 2017,
interrupted only by Rafael Nadal in 2010. In Federer’s later years, Nadal
claimed the award four consecutive times, making it 18 total wins for the duo
between 2004 and 2021.

With
Nadal’s recent absence from the tour, Casper Ruud claimed the award in 2022,
followed by Carlos Alcaraz in 2023. Both are nominated again this year in
pursuit of back-to-back wins.

Other
nominees include Grigor Dimitrov and the recently retired Dominic Thiem. The
winner will be announced on December 9 during the Awards Week ceremony.
