Previous editions of The Match have featured stars from all walks of life, from golf’s biggest names to NBA champions and Hall of Fame quarterbacks.
The latest iteration will truly have a little bit of everything.
The sports world will be well represented with Baseball Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr., Hockey icon Wayne Gretzky, swimming great Michael Phelps, former NBA All-Star Blake Griffin and Basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley. They will be joined by three non-athletes who each have some experience on the golf course: actors Bill Murray and Mark Wahlberg, plus comedian Nate Bargatze.
“The Match: Superstars” is headed back to South Florida nine months after the last contest, which saw Rory McIlroy win out of a four-team field of professional golfers. This edition doesn’t feature any professional golfers, but it’s not short on (former) world-class athletes.
Here’s everything you need to know about “The Match: Superstars” as it gets underway.

The Match returns to West Palm Beach for the second time this year, though it’s heading a few miles west to Breakers West Country Club. February’s edition was played at The Park West Palm just a couple blocks from Florida’s east coast.
This is the fourth iteration of The Match to be played in Florida. The Match has also been played in Nevada four different times over the years.

The Match is a two-night event this time and will be pre-recorded, so the format has changed a bit with the larger field of competitors.
The eight golfers will initially be broken up into four teams of two:
Barkley and Griffey will face Gretzky and Murray, while Phelps and Wahlberg will face Bargatze and Griffin. The teams will engage in scramble play, during which each golfer tees off and the team selects the best ball to play the next shot.
Each team continues to follow that process until the hole is finished, and whichever team finishes with the lower score on the hole wins. Should both teams record the same score, then the hole is halved, and whichever team has the most holes won by the end of the tournament wins.
On Friday, the winning teams will be split into four individual golfers who will compete in a semifinal and final.
The individual winner of “The Match: Superstars” will receive a $1 million prize.
While certain other iterations of The Match were strictly for charity, the individual who beats out seven other competitors will get his own prize while all charitable contributions will go to hurricane relief efforts, Warner Bros. Discovery said in a release.
The Match has raised $41 million for charity organizations since it began in 2018.
