Recruiting is a difficult process, especially in the modern era of college sports since the advent of NIL. Players, the top guys especially, are targeted well in advance of their graduation and start getting offers as well. Mark Stoops and the Kentucky Wildcats football team have built a solid class for 2025, but are working on the future as well.
The Wildcats have extended offers to a number of players in the 2026 recruiting class and beyond. One of those players is 2027 edge rusher Justin Weeks who received an offer from Stoops on Thursday.
Weeks is rated as one of the top players in his class by 247sports. They currently have him ranked as the fourth best edge rusher of the 2027 players and the number eight overall prospect. Aside from Kentucky, he also has offers from the Florida Gators, Tennessee Volunteers, USC Trojans, and others.
The odds of Kentucky landing a top ten player aren’t good, but it’s certainly good to see them reaching out to the elite recruits early on. If the Cats are ever going to be a top program, they need top players. They have to start somewhere, and Weeks looks like he’d be a good one.
