The Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders played quite the game against each other on Sunday afternoon. From start to finish the game was weird in just about every single sense. Consider that Brandon Aubrey missed his first two field goal attempts, the first of which was blocked, and that neither would factor into the five strangest things to occur before it was all said and done.
It is always fun to come out on the winning side of weird games so thankfully that is the case for the Dallas Cowboys, but what exactly was the weirdness involved with the game? In the closing minutes, the FOX broadcast put this on the screen, a microcosm of the madness that unfolded for three hours:
To be clear the NFL history we are talking about here is “only” the Super Bowl era, although that encompasses a pretty big chunk of time.
This was the first game in that era to have two missed extra points (both of which came from Washington’s Austin Seibert), two kickoffs returned for a touchdown (both of which belonged to the Cowboys, amazingly in the final moments with KaVontae Turpin and Juanyeh Thomas) and a blocked punt which Washington had against Dallas early in the game.
That is a lot of action so it is understandable that no game ever featured it all occurring before.
Consider that the Cowboys have won literally ever game where this has happened now!
