The Commercial Appeal won four awards in the Super Bowl of sports journalism contests for work done in 2024.
The honors were among the 12 awards won by the USA TODAY Network – Tennessee from the Associated Press Sports Editors.
Sports editors and journalists throughout the country voted on top-10 placements in various writing, website, print newspaper and photography categories, which were split into four divisions based on newspaper circulation or digital readership size.
Memphis Tigers basketball writer Jason Munz placed in the top 10 in three different categories for the C Division, including beat writing.

Chris Day received a top 10 for feature photo for his image of the aftermath of Gordonville’s overtime win over Middle College in the TSSAA boys basketball state tournament.
