The City Tournament begins Wednesday; here’s a look at all the past champions and schedule
The 76th City Tournament begins on Wednesday at the Bank of Springfield Center with two girls basketball games as No. 3 Southeast faces No. 2 Sacred Heart-Griffin at 6 p.m. At 8 p.m., No. 1 Springfield High meets No. 4 Lanphier.
On Thursday, the boys tip off as No. 3 Lanphier plays No. 2 SHG at 6 p.m. while No. 1 Springfield High squares off with No. 4 Southeast at 8 p.m. The tournament concludes with four games apiece on Friday and Saturday.
The Springfield High boys basketball team is looking for its first title since 2009 but will face stiff competition from last year’s champion Lanphier as well as a young, but hungry, SHG team that won it twice in 2022 and ’23.
Meanwhile, the Senators are seeking their first repeat title since the Solons won six straight from 2014-19.
The State Journal-Register will have all the action from all four nights.
