Georgia football fans have become very used to watching an elite football team every Saturday in the fall. That enjoyment however has not occurred on Sundays.
It’s probably a safe assumption to make that most Georgia fans are also Atlanta Falcons fans. And while UGA fans will always love the Falcons, it has been extremely difficult following this franchise in recent years.
Atlanta has had their fair share of success throughout the years, but that has not been the case recently. This past season marked the seventh year in a row Atlanta has finished below .500. With the way the NFL is set up, that is almost impossible to pull off. But unfortunately for Falcons fans, that’s the reality of the world they live in on Sundays in the fall.
All the recent success for Georgia, including multiple National Championships and SEC Championships, makes watching a below average NFL product even more difficult. But that reality has caused one debate run rampant among Georgia and Falcons football fans. Why hasn’t Atlanta drafted players from Georgia after witnessing their greatness the last few years?
Scouting in the NFL is an insanely hard thing to do. There are so many different college teams and players throughout the country that they keep tabs on, so selecting the best players in every draft is a difficult task. But the college program that should be the easiest for Atlanta to scout is Georgia. They are in the same state and have been extremely dominant the last decade, so one would assume the Falcons would be all over their players.
That however has not happened.
Is the Falcons lack of former Bulldogs on their team part of the problem and a cause of their recent struggles? Who knows. But former Georgia football players that the Falcons willingly passed on are dominating in the NFL Playoffs, so it’s not crazy to wonder if Atlanta would be in a better position as an organization if they had drafted some Bulldogs.
Who knows what the Falcons will do later this summer in the 2025 NFL Draft, but recent history says that selecting Georgia Bulldogs is a great idea. So hopefully that is exactly what Atlanta does later this summer.
