Iga Swiatek recently shared how her outlook on social media has changed over the years. The Pole, who previously took extreme measures to cut down her time online, indicated that she has since established a balance.
Swiatek, who recently served a one-month doping suspension, is set to commence her 2025 journey at the ongoing United Cup, representing Poland. After her return, the five-time Grand Slam champion appeared as a guest on her colleague Caroline Garcia’s Tennis Insider Club podcast.
In the episode, which is set to release on January 6, Iga Swiatek spoke about how her relationship with social media has developed in recent months. Earlier in 2024, the Pole revealed that she had deleted Instagram from her phone. Speaking about her decision at the time, she said:
“I would say before I was only tennis, tennis, tennis. I even – I’m deleting Instagram, Twitter, the notification on my emails.”
According to the Pole, social media detox initially allowed her to be “more focused” on her on-court pursuits.
“So at the beginning it was a good way for me to be more focused.”
“But now you just can’t do that anymore because if you’re going to do that for like 40 weeks per year, that’s not a life anymore,” Iga Swiatek explained.
“I am mixing it up” – Iga Swiatek on establishing work-life balance
During her podcast appearance, Iga Swiatek revisited her 2024 Italian Open triumph. The Pole, who otherwise keeps to herself at tournaments, said that she treated herself to the company of her close ones in Rome.
“So, I am mixing it up,” she said. “For example, Rome was a good tournament for me this year because my friends were there.”
“I remember after the semifinal I went to dinner and I finished at like midnight. This is something I wouldn’t do a year ago,” she noted. “It was fine. I managed to be focused the same way. I won the tournament and I was really happy that I’m trying to enjoy life a bit more. You need to balance that when you have these days off.”
Swiatek is presently enjoying the company of her Polish teammates at the United Cup in Sydney. The team, which also includes Hubert Hurkacz, Kamil Majchrzak, Maja Chwalinska, Jan Zielinski, and Alicja Rosolska, has drawn the Czech Republic and Norway in their group. Swiatek is expected to open her campaign on December 30 against Norway’s Malene Helgo.
