The Tomorrow Golf League, led by the legendary Tiger Woods and the dynamic Rory McIlroy, will kick off its inaugural season on Tuesday in the state-of-the-art, 250,000-square-foot SoFi Center at Palm Beach State College.
The TMRW Sports Group, which owns TGL, is collaborating with the PGA Tour on this venture, ensuring a high standard of competition.
The TGL will stand out with its six teams, each composed of four PGA Tour golfers. To enhance the fan experience, players will wear microphones during play, providing a unique insight into their strategies and emotions. The 15 regular season matches will be held in a custom-built arena from early January to early March.
At the end of the regular season, the top four teams will advance to the semifinals, scheduled for March 17 and March 18. The winners of the semifinals will then compete for the SoFi Cup in a best-of-three finals, taking place on March 24 and March 25.
Here is everything to know about the TGL ahead of the first tee on Jan. 7:
TGL, which unofficially stands for Tomorrow’s Golf League, is a new tech-infused golf league. The idea behind it is to combine the latest in golf technology with in-person competition.
TGL’s format aims to, in Woods’ words, “bring a fresh, modern, and fast-paced twist to the game we all love.” It will include a shot clock, timeouts, and both team and individual match play.
Each TGL match is a competitive showcase of skill and strategy, consisting of two intense sessions. The first session is a nine-hole, 3-on-3 alternate-shot format known as “triples.” In the second session, golfers compete in singles, going head-to-head over six holes, with each player playing two holes. A shot clock set to 40 seconds adds to the pressure, as any shot clock violation incurs a one-stroke penalty.xx
Each hole is worth one point. If the teams are tied at the end of regulation, the match will proceed to overtime. During overtime, players compete head-to-head, and the team that lands their shot closest to the pin will be declared the winner.
The TGL will host six teams of four PGA Tour golfers competing in two-hour matches at the SoFi Center, a specially designed arena located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
If you’re eager to catch the TGL action, you’re in luck — every match will be easily accessible. Whether you enjoy watching on a big screen or prefer the convenience of streaming, ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN+ have you covered. The entire season will be broadcast or streamed, ensuring you won’t miss a moment of the competition.
TGL matches can also be streamed on Fubo, which is offering a free trial.
Tiger Woods will be joined by Max Homa, Tom Kim and Kevin Kisner on the Jupiter Links GC team, which was announced April 22.
