Tiger Woods makes TGL debut, hits first tee shot with Jupiter Links GC
Golf legend Tiger Woods and his team Jupiter Links GC competed in their debut match at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025.
PALM BEACH GARDENS — Tiger Woods’ TGL debut was not a victorious one.
Los Angeles Golf Club throttled Jupiter Links Golf Club 12-1 in the second straight blowout result in the brief history of TGL competition at the SoFi Center.
Woods’ team fell behind 5-0 through four holes and trailed 8-1 after the completion of triples competition.
Last week, The Bay Golf Club beat New York Golf Club 9-2 in TGL’s first official contest.
The first nine holes of competition were “triples” with the three team members alternating shots.
Holes No. 10-15 were individual singles matches.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and tennis legend Serena Williams were among the attendees for Tiger Woods’ debut with TGL on Tuesday night at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens.
DeSantis was flanked by his wife, Casey, and family members. He visited with TGL/TMRW Sports executives while Woods and other players warmed up in the SoFi Center.
Williams, who lives in Palm Beach Gardens, was seen entering the arena during the pre-match broadcast on ESPN. She is a co-owner of Los Angeles Golf Club and sat in the team’s booth.
Woods and Jupiter Links GC will be back in action at the SoFi Center on Monday, Jan. 27 for a match with Rory McIlroy’s team, Boston Common.
After Jupiter Links’ match with Boston Common, Woods will be off for nearly a month until facing The Bay Golf Club on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
There may be no tougher ticket in professional than TGL.
According to Ticketmaster, no tickets are available for any of the remaining TGL matches scheduled for the 2025 season.
“The Hammer Rule” allows teams to increase the value of a specific hole throughout the contest.
A pre-match coin toss determines which team will begin the game with possession of “The Hammer.” The possessing team can then throw it during any hole.
If “The Hammer” is thrown and accepted, the point total of the hole increases by one. For example, holes normally count for 1 point. A thrown Hammer increases the value to 2 points. Teams must accept a Hammer throw if it occurs prior to the hole’s first shot.
