DRIPPING SPRINGS — Jack Tyndall ran for 184 yards and three touchdowns and Maddox Maher went 15 of 17 through the air for 191 yards and three scores as Dripping Springs routed McNeil 49-14 in a Class 6A Division II bi-district playoff game Friday night at Tiger Stadium.
The Tigers rushed for 315 yards as part of a night where they finished with more than 500 yards of offense and never punted.
With Dripping Springs leading 21-7 at halftime, Tyndall scored on runs of 8, 2 and 7 yards in the second half to help the Tigers break open the game.
Jadon Sultz threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns to pace McNeil (5-6), but the Mavericks squandered several opportunities in Dripping Springs territory to stay in the contest.
Maher hit Merrik Bloomgren (17 yards), Nick Tyndall (24 yards) and Cooper Reid (34 yards) on scoring strikes in the first half, while McNeil’s score came on Sultz’s 14-yard toss to Jarrell Gary.
The Mavericks had more than 200 yards of offense before the break, but the Tigers defense forced a fumble, made a fourth-down stop at its own 6-yard line and batted down a pass in the end zone to end the half.
Mateo Perez reached the end zone from 3 yards out in the game’s final minute for Dripping Springs to reach the game’s final tally. Grayson Buaas and Malachi Igharo had interceptions to pace the Tigers defense.
Dripping Springs (8-3) will play San Antonio Harlan in the area round.
