Matthew McConaughey, members of Texas football sing ‘The Eyes of Texas’
Actor Matthew McConaughey and members of the Texas football team celebrate a 17-7 win at Texas A&M with “The Eyes of Texas.”
It was a little closer than Texas football would’ve liked, but it advanced in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff with a 38-24 victory over Clemson on Saturday.
The Longhorns now move on to the second round, where they’ll travel to Atlanta, Georgia to face fourth-seeded Arizona State in the Peach Bowl. Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers was efficient against Clemson, throwing for 202 yards, a touchdown and an interception on 17 of 24 passing. However, it was the Longhorns run game that dominated the Tigers.
Running backs Jaydon Blue and Quintrevion Wisner combined for 256 yards and four touchdowns on 29 carries, averaging 8.8 yards per carry. This was without starters Jake Majors and Cameron Williams, who both left the game in the second quarter with injuries.
They were supported by a defense that came up big in critical moments despite giving up 336 yards passing and three touchdowns to Tigers quarterback Cade Klubnik. Texas had a goalline stop in the fourth quarter and Michael Taaffe sealed the game with a fourth down tackle.
Here are some reactions to the game.
