Texas football announced several staff updates following a busy start to the offseason. Steve Sarkisian was tasked with replacing safeties coach Blake Gideon, who left for the defensive coordinator job at Georgia Tech, as well as running backs coach Tashard Choice, who left for the same job with the Detroit Lions. On top of that, Sarkisian bolstered his staff with several additions as well as promotions for current staff members.
Here’s a look at all the latest updates:
Terry Joseph — Defensive passing game coordinator & secondary/ Safeties
Mark Orphey (new to the staff) — Corners coach
Chad Scott (new to the staff) — Running backs coach
Keynodo Hudson — Nickels coach
LaAllan Clark (new to the staff) — Edge coach
Mike Bimonte — Co-passing game coordinator/ Assistant QB coach
Jahmal Fenner — Director of Player Development & High School Relations
Errin Joe (new to the staff) — Director of Scouting
Josh Dunson (new to the staff) — Senior Player Personnel Coordinator
Tanner Martin — Scouting Coordinator
Jordan Mitchell — Recruiting/Retention Strategy
Of note, new assistant Mark Orphey will coach the cornerbacks, while Terry Joseph will take over as safeties coach with Gideon’s departure. Joseph has experience coaching safeties throughout his career, including mentoring one of the best in former Notre Dame star and current Baltimore Raven Kyle Hamilton.
It was reported Orphey would join the staff last week, while Scott’s addition is relatively new with Horns247 reporting his hiring on Wednesday night. Horns247’s Chip Brown went into detail on what Scott brings to the staff in Thursday morning’s Insider.
Steve Sarkisian talked about his own personal contract extension this offseason, as well as his staff, this morning on the Up & Adams Show.
“It always feels good, you know?” Sark said of his extension. “I mean, obviously we feel like we’ve done some pretty good things here. We’ve got great support from administration, the Board of Regents, Chris Del Conte, athletic director, the entire athletic department And so to recognize kind of what we’re doing is great, but more important than me, I think extending all the assistant coaches, keeping our staff intact, the continuity we have has been huge.”
The updates appear to round a somewhat active coaching carousel for the Longhorns this offseason. But in what’s a rarity in college football these days, Texas will enter the 2025 season with the same three offensive (Kyle Flood), defensive (Pete Kwiatkowski) and special teams (Jeff Banks) coordinators that Sark has had in his entire time on the Forty Acres.
