Texas basketball (12-6, 1-4 SEC) ended a grueling opening stretch of conference play with an 84-60 road loss at Florida on Saturday.

With little room for error, the Longhorns will try to bolster their NCAA Tournament case in a more manageable slate of games that starts with a visit Tuesday from No. 24 Missouri (8 p.m., SEC Network). After playing four ranked teams in its first five SEC games, Texas faces three ranked foes over its next six, with none of those teams ranked higher than No. 13 Texas A&M.

The Longhorns, who rank third in the SEC in shooting at 49%, had their second-worst shooting game of the year at 36.4% in the loss to Florida. They were also outrebounded 41-33 and have yet to win the rebounding battle in an SEC game. Can Texas bounce back behind freshman guard Tre Johnson, who leads the team in scoring and had a team-high 16 points in the loss to Florida?

Both teams have settled into a slugfest, and Texas is punching away at that Mizzou zone in the paint. The Longhorns are 8-of-10 from the foul line compared to 6-of-19 from the floor. Jordan Pope (8 points) is the only Horn with more than three points.

Jordan Pope has added some juice to the Texas offense with a pair of 3-pointers. That’s exactly what the Longhorns need because they are playing good defense against a potent Tiger lineup and outrebounding Mizzou 14-8.

The officials overturn a goal-tending call on Arthur Kaluma from 2 minutes ago, which wipes out a Mizzou bucket.

I mean, the stats don’t lie for Texas. The Longhorns miss their first nine shots until Kadin Shedrick drops in a bucket at the 11:46 mark. They have four turnovers and have missed all five of their 3-point shots. Yet they’re down one point to the No. 24 team (coaches poll) in the nation.

These are two of the better-shooting teams in the SEC so of course they open the game a combined 0-for-9 from the floor until Mizzou final hits a shot. Yikes.

The usual starting lineup for Texas with guards Jordan Pope and Tre Johnson, wing Tramon Mark, forward Arthur Kaluma and post Kadin Shedrick. Missouri will counter with Anthony Roberts II, Tamar Bates and Tony Perkins and forwards Trent Pierce and Mark Mitchell. The 6-foot-9 Mitchell is the one to watch; the Duke transfer leads Mizzou in scoring and rebounding.
