Texas women’s basketball nonconference schedule
Before it gets some time off for the holidays, the Texas women’s basketball team has some business to tend to.
The Longhorns will host South Dakota State at Moody Center on Sunday afternoon. This is the second-to-last game on the schedule before UT’s Southeastern Conference opener at Oklahoma on Jan. 2, 2025.
Although South Dakota State (10-2) was unranked this week in a USA Today Sports Coaches Poll poll that ranked Texas (11-1) sixth, the Jackrabbits aren’t pushovers. South Dakota State has reached five of the past six NCAA tournaments, and the Jackrabbits have split this season’s games against ranked Creighton and Duke teams.
Check back for live updates from today’s game:
While making her second career start, freshman guard Jordan Lee has gotten Texas off to a quick start. Over the game’s first five minutes, Lee has scored seven points and recorded a steal.
Texas has built its early lead without any points from All-American Madison Booker. Booker has missed her lone shot so far, but she has distributed two assists.
For the first time this season, Texas will start a four-guard lineup. Rori Harmon, Jordan Lee, Shay Holle and Madison Booker will accompany senior forward Taylor Jones to today’s opening tip.
For 11 of its previous 12 games, Texas had started Harmon, Holle, Booker and Jones alongside senior forward Aaliyah Moore. A freshman, Lee will replace Moore in today’s starting lineup and make her second career start.
South Dakota State does not have a player taller than six feet, two inches.
Before Sunday’s game, Texas plans on honoring seniors Taylor Jones and Rori Harmon for their offensive achievements. Jones recently scored the 1,500th point of her college career while Harmon scored her 1,000th.
A sixth-year forward, Jones has played at Oregon State and Texas in college. Had she spent her entire career at Texas, her 1,550 points would currently rank 17th in the UT record books.
Harmon, meanwhile, has scored 1,040 points over her four years with the Longhorns. She is one of 48 members of UT’s 1,000-point club. Her 579 career assists also rank third among the all-time Longhorns.
