Tennessee basketball comes in at No 5 in this week’s AP Poll following the Vols’ first 2-0 week of conference play. Tennessee dropped one-spot with Florida jumping them.
The Vols started off their week with an 85-81 comeback win over Missouri in Knoxville. Tennessee trailed by 11 points in the second half before using a second half offensive explosion to get past the Tigers.
Tennessee capped off its week with a dominant win at Oklahoma. The Vols made 17 of their first 19 shots from the field, jumping out to a major lead and coasting to a 70-52 victory that proved to be Oklahoma’s worst offensive outing of the season.
This week’s AP Poll is jam packed with SEC teams at the top this week. Tennessee is fifth in the country and fourth in the conference coming in behind No. 1 Auburn, No. 2 Alabama and No. 3 Florida. There’s nine total SEC teams in this week’s poll with Tennessee coming in ahead of No. 8 Texas A&M, No. 15 Kentucky, No. 19 Ole Miss, No. 21 Missouri and No. 22 Mississippi State.
Tennessee has revenge on its mind this week. The Vols travel to Kentucky to face the 15th-ranked Wildcats on Tuesday night before hosting Vanderbilt on Saturday afternoon.
Rick Barnes’ 10th Tennessee team fell to Kentucky two weeks ago in Knoxville, shooting a putrid 11-of-45 from three-point range in a three-point loss. Tennessee lost at Vanderbilt early in SEC play when Chaz Lanier missed the game-tying free throw with less than five seconds remaining.
The Vols enter the week on a three-game winning streak, their longest of SEC play, and are looking to boost their case for a one-seed in the NCAA Tournament with two more wins this week.
