Indian IT services and consulting firm Tech Mahindra on Monday said it has become the first company to secure a licensing agreement for Cricket Wireless’s Point of Sale (POS) system, “Aktivate”. The deal will allow Tech Mahindra to integrate the system into its suite of solutions for wireless service providers worldwide.
Cricket Wireless, a prepaid mobile service provider owned by AT&T, operates over 4,000 retail stores in the US. Its Aktivate POS system is designed to streamline in-store operations, allowing agents to assist customers more efficiently. The system also includes Generative AI (GenAI) features to support customer service staff with real-time assistance.
Manish Mangal, Chief Technology Officer for Telecom at Tech Mahindra, said that traditional POS systems are often fragmented. By integrating Aktivate, Tech Mahindra aims to enhance sales processes, reduce training time, and improve customer satisfaction. The company also plans to introduce Agentic AI, which will automate certain tasks and allow store staff to focus on customer interactions.
The Pune-headquartered IT firm has previously contributed to the development of Aktivate, supporting its evolution since its launch in 2018. Cricket Wireless’s Chief Information Officer, Matt Haymons, expressed confidence in the partnership, noting that Tech Mahindra’s expertise would help expand Aktivate’s reach into new markets.
The integration of Aktivate into Tech Mahindra’s solutions is set to begin immediately. While Cricket Wireless remains focused on the US market, Tech Mahindra will offer the system to wireless providers in other regions., according to the company.
