Taylor Fritz capped off a stellar season with a maiden visit to the final of the ATP Finals.
The 26-year-old has cemented his status as the top American male tennis player this year, climbing to a career-high ranking of fourth in the world.
He successfully defended his title in Delray Beach and added a victory in Eastbourne to his achievements.
Taylor Fritz reached his first Grand Slam final at the US Open, where he fell to Jannik Sinner, who had a record-breaking season.
The Italian claimed eight titles, including two Grand Slams, and led Italy to a historic Davis Cup title defense.
Sinner also became the first player ever to win two majors, the Davis Cup, and the ATP Finals in a single season.
Losing just six matches and finishing with a remarkable win percentage of over 92%, Sinner’s 2024 season is being compared to Roger Federer’s legendary 2006 campaign, where the Swiss lost just five of his 97 matches.
Reflecting on this, Fritz expressed disbelief, calling Federer’s achievements ‘insane’ and almost impossible to comprehend.
He wrote on X: “I can’t begin to tell you how INSANE playing 97 matches in one year is (Roger 2006) Especially back when Masters finals were 3/5 sets as well.”
In an era where packed schedules and grueling formats dominate the conversation, Federer’s achievements in 2006 remain exceptional, especially given that Masters events were still played as best-of-five sets, adding a level of endurance to his success.
His remarkable consistency and dominance continue to set the standard for excellence in tennis.
Federer’s 2006 season is widely regarded as one of the greatest in tennis history.
That year, he finished with a 92-5 record, maintaining his world number one ranking throughout and winning three of the four Grand Slam titles, with his only loss in a major coming to Rafael Nadal in the French Open final.
Federer also triumphed at the ATP Finals, capping off a nearly flawless year.
He finished the season with a perfect record of 29–0 – an unbeaten run that continued into 2007 and make up his career best 41-match winning streak.
