MARION, Ill. (KFVS) – A new golf comedy television series has begun filming in the Heartland.
According to a release, filming began Monday, August 12, on the pilot episode of “Tales from the Links,” a new T.V. series by Bogey Men LLC of Indianapolis and GuerrillaFilm of Marion.
It’s an anthology series said to reenact some of the world’s greatest golf stories. The show is an updated version of the series by the same name that aired on ESPN back in the 1990s.
Some of the locations used in the filming include Walker’s Bluff Casino Resort and Walkers Bluff Winery in Carterville, as well as Kokopelli Golf Course and Pookie’s Beer, Burgers, Bocce in Marion.
Additionally, most of the crew hails from Jackson, Jefferson, Saline, Union and Williamson Counties and includes students and graduates from the film, cinematography and animation programs at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and Full Sail University.
“It’s the first national production to come to this part of the state and hire a crew from the region. It’s a testament of the growing body of skilled filmmakers we have,” said Jon Musgrave, a board member of the Southern Illinois Film Commission.
The production came to the region through the efforts of the commission and the tax incentives offered by the state through the Illinois Film Office. Illinois offers a 30 percent transferable tax credit on eligible expenditures paid to Illinois workers and vendors, as well as a limited number of out-of-state personnel.
Bogey Men LLC will also debut the National Bogey Jar Invitational Scramble this November in Orlando. Kokopelli Golf Course in Marion will be one of 108 courses around the country hosting a local championship to qualify for the event. The Marion course will also be one of the 18 sectional qualifiers for the national event in 2025.
