Syracuse, N.Y. —The Syracuse University basketball team has suffered 16 double-digit losses under head coach Adrian Autry since he took over the program starting with the 2023-24 season.
Syracuse’s 91-84 loss to Miami on Tuesday night didn’t make the doubler-digit list, but its still far worse.
It’s the rock bottom loss for Syracuse in Autry’s tenure.
Losing to the likes of Duke by 29 points, Maryland by 27, Tennessee by 26 and Louisville by 24 this season is one thing.
Losing to a 5-18 team with one just ACC win entering last night’s game playing under an interim coach?
Brutal. Absolutely brutal.
Tuesday’s loss was the worst by the Orange per KenPom rankings (Miami was 184) since dropping a game to Bryant (205) on Nov. 26, 2022.
Syracuse gave up 91 points to the last-place team in the ACC and allowed a program shooting 31% from 3-point range (17th in the ACC) to drop 10 3’s and shoot 50% (10-20) from distance.
That tends to happen when you think defense is optional on most possessions.
The Hurricanes were losing ACC games this year by an average of 15 points per game but one of two ACC pelts on its wall now is colored Orange.
With six games to go and this season careening into a lost cause, all eyes (those that are still engaged anyway) are already turning to next season.
Orange fans are asking louder by the day if Autry should be the coach that gets to clean up his own mess then while hoping it can’t get any worse now.
We discussed all those topics and more on “Syracuse Basketball Postgame” presented by Crouse Health.
