November 10, 2024-Emporia State swept the top two spots in both the men’s and women’s competitions at the Mid-American Regional Disc Golf Championships presented by Dynamic Discs.
The Hornet Men’s Gold Team of Justin Farrell, TJ Reel, Cade Kohlmeier and Micah Tatro shot 11 under on Sunday at Jones Park to finish the tournament at -29 and take the championship by seven strokes over the Emporia State Black Team of Isaiah Esquivel, Grant Yoder, Joshua Sterner and Kolton Webb. The Black team shot -8 on Sunday to overtake Oklahoma Christian who shot -5 on Sunday and -20 for the tournament.
The Emporia State Gold duo of Atlanta Krueger and Madeline Joiner dominated the women’s competition. They shot -6 on Sunday at Peter Pan Park and were the only team to finish below par for the tournament, finishing one under. Maya Ringgold and Rebekah Thompson shot +2 for ESU Black in the final round to finish +18 to edge Hesston by one stroke. Grace Watson made up the Emporia State White team and shot +29 for the tourney to place fourth.
The Hornets will be back in action on November 23 when they take part in the Newton Conference Open in Newton, Kan.
