LAKEWOOD, Colo. (KKTV) – A suspect has died after being shot by police in Lakewood overnight.
According to Lakewood police, security guards at the Belmar Shopping District called for help at 3:30 Monday morning after catching a man trespassing at the Best Buy.
11 News sister station, citing a Lakewood Police Department spokesperson, reports that the suspect aimed his gun at the officers, who shot him. The suspect was then rushed to the hospital, where he later died. He has not been identified at the time of this writing.
The Lakewood Police Department posted to social media just after 5:20 a.m. that it was investigating an officer-involved shooting on Alaska Drive and that “all officers are okay.”
The Belmar Shopping District is an outdoor mall with more than 80 stores, restaurants and a movie theater.
More information is expected later Monday or on Tuesday.
