A man suspected of stealing from locker rooms and then committing identity theft and credit card fraud — in Oakland County, and elsewhere in Michigan and in the western United States — was arraigned Tuesday in Troy on several felony charges.
Terrence Harrington, 40, is held in the Oakland County Jail on a $200,000 bond, charged with four counts of felony larceny in a building and eight counts of felony financial transaction device — stealing/retaining without consent. His next court date is March 6 for a probable cause conference.
According to Troy police, Harrington is known to travel throughout the U.S. and commit financial crimes and theft-related offenses originating with thefts from local gym locker rooms. LA Fitness in Troy and Royal Oak, as well as Planet Fitness in Troy, were targeted last December, police said. Harrington is also a suspect in multiple cases elsewhere in Michigan, and in California, Washington and Nevada.
He was extradited from Las Vegas to Michigan last Friday. Officials said the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department recovered evidence linking him to ID theft and credit card fraud.
Police said Harrington’s arrest resulted from a collaborative effort by Troy’s special investigations unit and multiple law enforcement agencies. The special investigations unit includes officers from police departments in Troy, Royal Oak, Bloomfield Township, Auburn Hills and Birmingham.
