With Idiomatic out of the Breeders’ Cup Distaff, many handicappers will be inclined to write the race off for super filly Thorpedo Anna, but Mike Shutty’s Super Screener offers some potential alternatives.
To be certain, Thorpedo Anna is the horse to beat in this 1 1/8-mile dirt race on Nov. 2 at Del Mar. The three-time Grade 1 winner and Travers Stakes runner-up was likely going to be favored against the likes of last year’s champion older female and Distaff winner Idiomatic anyway, and now her price figures to be even shorter.
Super Screener is not just about picking winners, however, as it also discusses wagering dynamic among its analysis. Raging Sea already had the “top value” designation before Idiomatic’s scratch, and that might be especially so now given that Thorpedo Anna is likely to be odds on.
“The highly productive Chad Brown-trained filly is 6-for-7 in the exacta at this nine-furlong distance thanks to an explosive late foot that has helped her win even in slow pace conditions,” Shutty says. “She meets most Super Screener criteria and is a reliable type to hit the board with some shot to win if there is a contested pace.”
Every Breeders’ Cup race includes top win contender, top value and top longshot designations with bullet point handicapping factors considered for each individual race as well as ABC-style designations for all pre-entered horses and a corresponding suggestion for their use in multi-race wagers.
Super Screener is available now for Breeders’ Cup, and all updates to the product are included if you buy now.
