Certain divisions of state-bred stakes days can feature standout horses at short prices, but that is not the case for the Louisiana Champions Day Turf Stakes on Saturday at Fair Grounds.
One of seven stakes for Bayou breds in the Big Easy, the Champions Day Turf has a 3-1 favorite among 11 entrants, and the two horses Mike Shutty’s Super Screener zeroed in on most are 8-1 and 20-1.

“Big Boo emerges as the rare pick who is a top win contender, top board hitter and top long-shot designation,” Shutty said. “He is making his second start off the layoff and returns to the lawn with form-cycle analysis projecting a match of his lifetime top, if not a few points improvement.
“He projects to sit a ground-saving trip just four lengths off the demanding pace, and he’ll get first jump on the deeper closers. He’ll be a forgotten horse here, and that works to our advantage as we expect to get every bit of that morning line price.”
Each race of Super Screener includes picks, analysis and wagering strategy. With the Louisiana Champions Turf featuring long-shot potential, Shutty has mapped several exotic plays using logical contenders. Of course, Big Boo’s expected odds as a win bet are part of the play, too.
