Formidable Man has been there, done that, and has the T-shirt. Now his connections want a Grade 1, and Mike Shutty says in this week’s Super Screener that Formidable Man is the value play to get it in the Hollywood Derby on Saturday at Del Mar.
“He won the Del Mar Derby at this course and distance and is 3-for-3 overall on Del Mar turf,” Shutty wrote. “He submitted a top performance in the Oceanside Stakes off a break similar to what he has coming into this. He owns an abundance of early pace but can be reserved in his rally, and that is a lethal combination.”
The Hollywood Derby is one of three races in the Screener for Saturday, and if you’re reading this on Friday then the Mrs. Revere and Clark Stakes at Churchill Downs are in play as well.
Super Screener provides weekly selections with Top Win Contender, Most Reliable Board Hitter, Top Value and Top Long Shots designations to go along with written analysis and wagering strategy.
