The Razorback Handicap on Sunday at Oaklawn Park is an extremely competitive race for older horses that attracted 14 entrants with weights between 115 and 122 pounds.
The morning line reflects the competitive nature of the race as well. There is a 7-2 to 20-1 spread among the entrants with the 122-pound highweight First Mission the third choice at 5-1. Horse Racing Nation has First Mission more likely co-favored with 7-2 morning line favorite Banishing and Baddest Good Boy a bit longer than his 9-2 morning line price.
Anyway, that is a long setup to say that Mike Shutty’s Super Screener sees opportunity here as none of those three horses are among the Top Win Contenders, Most Reliable Board Hitters, Top Value or Top Long Shot designations.
“This may be the best wagering opportunity on the Rebel Stakes undercard,” Shutty says. “No help from the pace from a handicapping perspective, as it will clock in around par with moderate pace pressure for a race of this size.”
Alexander Helios gets top billing for Shutty, factoring as a top win contender and prominently in the wagering strategy, which is included with each screened race.
“Form-cycle analysis is calling for a new lifetime top thanks to this being just his second race off the eight-month layoff coupled with the last-out bullet work,” Shutty says of the Saffie Joseph Jr. trainee. “His combination of balance and a strong late foot have contributed to his remarkable consistency-the top choice offering plenty of value.”
The other key to the Razorback wagering strategy is Skinner, who Super Screener projects to improve off his first start for trainer Cherie DeVaux. Throw Super Screener’s top keys in with long shots Dimatic and Cooke Creek, and this race can really blow up.
The Razorback is one of eight races in this week’s Screener that includes racing throughout Saturday as well, from the Saudi Cup in early afternoon in Saudi Arabia to the John Battaglia Memorial that night at Turfway Park.
