There is something for everyone this weekend at Gulfstream and Santa Anita Parks: Kentucky Derby prep races, Grade 1 races for older horses on turf and dirt, and low-takeout, non-computer-wagering Pick 5s tying them all together.
The Frank E. Kilroe Mile on Saturday at Santa Anita is a key ingredient to the above stew as part of the coast-to-coast Pick 5 that includes a Grade 1 double with the Santa Anita Handicap. It also offers the best opportunity at a big price, according to Mike Shutty’s Super Screener.
“This year’s renewal of the Kilroe is a gem, and based on Super Screener analysis has the potential for a significant upset that plays right into form-cycle patterns and pace impact considerations,” Shutty wrote. “All wagering attention will be on nos. 1 Mi Harmano Ramon and 3 El Potente. However, form-cycle analysis results are indicating regression for both horses off recent lifetime top performances.”
Each race in Super Screener features top win contender, most reliable board hitter, top value and top long shot categories, and neither of the top two choices on Horse Racing Nation‘s morning line appear in any of the categories. Super Screener also offers wagering strategy for each race, and based on its long-shots-in, favorites-out prediction for the Kilroe, it’sno surprise that this race scored as having a high payoff potential.
“A lot sets up right here for no. 6 Zio Jo, who had a similar form-cycle analysis pattern last summer-fall that culminated in beating El Potente on Nov. 17,” Shutty wrote. “He regressed next out and wisely got some rest before returning for this season, and form-cycle analysis is indicating a move forward here second-off the layoff. This 5-year-old gelding is very well balanced, and he’ll get the hot pace he needs to close into as he reserves a ton of energy with a lot working in his favor to pull off a major upset.”
